Who is the organiser of the World News Media Congress?

Q: What is the World News Media Congress and who is the organiser?

A: WAN-IFRA’s World News Media Congress (WNMC) is the annual meeting of news publishers, editors and owners worldwide. It is hosted in a different city each year. Every year the Congress draws more than 1,000 professionals from over 60 countries for days of conferences, executive meetings, networking, and social events.

The 77th World News Media Congress in 2026 is organised by WAN-IFRA in partnership with CMA Media.

A: The 2026 Congress will take place in Marseille, France from 1 - 3 June. The Congress venue is at Palais du Pharo, 58 Boulevard Charles Livon, 13007 – Marseille.

How do I pick up my badge?

Registration /badge pick-up from 08:00 on Monday, 1 June. Please have your Digi-Card from the event app ready to collect your badge, which will be your entrance ticket for all registered social events, including the Welcome Reception (1 June) and the Awards Night & Soirée (2 June).

Q: Is there an event app?

A: Yes. “WAN-IFRA” is the official Congress app to help you make the most of your experience. After registering, you will receive an invitation email to download the app. The app enables you to:

  • Personalise your schedule
  • Book sessions that require pre-registration
  • Explore speakers, exhibitors, and attendees
  • Connect with fellow attendees and suppliers before, during, and after the event
  • Stay updated with the programme, room information and important notifications
  • NEW! Book meetings directly with other attendees and exhibitors.

Do you have hotel recommendations for attending the Congress?

A: Yes! We’ve curated a list of recommended hotels to help you find the best fit for your stay. You can explore each hotel’s website directly to check availability and secure the best rates.

Marseille is a popular summer destination, and June is peak season. We strongly encourage you to register for the Congress and book your accommodation early to ensure the best options and prices.

Do you offer group booking packages?

Q: Do you offer group booking packages?

A: We offer group rates for groups of three or more delegates, as well as special rates for NGOs and Academics. Please contact us for more information.

Q: Is there a digital or physical ticket for my registration?

A: There is no separate digital or physical ticket. Your registration confirmation email serves as proof of admission. Your Congress badge, which acts as your entrance ticket, will be available for collection. We will share details about how to collect your badge closer to the event.

Q: What languages are used during the Congress?

A: The Congress sessions are presented in English, with complimentary AI-powered translation of more than 20 languages (French, German, Dutch, Polish, Spanish, Italian, Norwegian, Danish, Korean, Japanese, Chinese…). The real-time translation is accessible on your chosen digital device, such as laptop, mobile phone, and tablet. Please bring your own headsets if you wish to access translation with audio.

Q: Could you assist with visa application?

A: France is in the Schengen visa area – and depending on your nationality, you may need to apply in advance for a Schengen visa to enter the country. Following Brexit, UK citizens do not need a visa to visit France.

Visa rules can change, so check with your nearest French Embassy or Consulate for the latest visa application details, especially related to your nationality. Visa processing times vary depending on the nationality of the applicant, the purpose of the stay and the local visa issuing conditions.

If you require a visa to enter France, we recommend registering for the Congress early and allowing at least two months to complete your visa application.

Dress Code

Q: What is the dress code?

Business casual attire is recommended for the Congress sessions; smart casual is appropriate for the social events. Review the Attendee Guide in the email you receive from us to know everything before you arrive.

Q: Refund and cancellation

A: Cancellation Policy: If the delegate cancels the registration up to 30 days prior to the event, the registration fee will be reimbursed in accordance with the terms specified in article 2.3, minus a 10% non-refundable handling fee. Up to 14 days before the event, 50% of the amount will be reimbursed. In the last 14 days prior to the event, no reimbursement will be possible except in cases of illness (with production of a medical certificate) or an  Act of God (supported by verifiable do documentation).

WAN-IFRA will not tolerate any form of discrimination or harassment based on race, colour, religion, sex, sexual orientation, marital status, pregnancy, parental status, national origin, ethnic background, age, disability, political opinion, social status, veteran status, union membership or genetic information.

While at WAN-IFRA events, in-person or virtual, any participant, including speakers, attendees, volunteers, sponsors, exhibitors, booth staff and anyone else, should not engage in discrimination or harassment of any kind.  This holds for social and other adjacent activities.
